Lep Social Studies Lessons
A wiki is a website that anyone can edit. It can be an up-to-date way for students learn both content and technology. Teachers can create wiki lesson plans that enable students to use technology skills to accomplish research and design.
At the secondary level, high school students need to make connections in their learning. By taking projects away from poster board and paper, wikis allows students to make cross-curricular connections, integrating computer and design skills with social studies content. An elective course, such as Psychology,can be an ideal setting in which to try a new lesson plan.
Teacher Resources in the Computer Lab
It is important to meet with the technology teacher or IT specialist at a school to make sure wikis, blogs, and other student-driven media can be used. Determine which sites to use, so they can be unfiltered from the school server when it is time for students to create their project. Add settings on the wiki site to the allowed users, such as students only.
