Integrative Body-Mind Training (IBMT) is a meditation technique adapted from a branch of traditional Chinese medicine in the 1990s. These techniques, practised by thousands in China, involve breathing exercises, visualisations and mental imagery.

As such, these methods have much in common with aspects of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), a set of techniques first developed by Richard Bandler and John Grindler, which are widely used to boost social skills, achieve life goals and conquer anxieties, among other things.

What did the IBMT research consist of ?

The research, by a team of Chinese researchers led by Yi-Yuan Tang of Dalian University of Technology in collaboration with University of Oregon, took place on a group of 45 university students (28 males and 17 females). They were randomly selected to be part of a group that did eleven hours of IBMT or a control group that did the same amount of relaxation training.
