Bikram Yoga, also known as hot yoga, is a yoga routine created by Bikram Choudhury in the early 1970s. Bikram Choudhury is a faithful student of Bishnu Ghosh, and Choudhury’s discipline carries on the philosophy and beliefs of his teacher, focusing on molding the ancient eastern practices to embrace the challenges of a more Western lifestyle.

Bikram Choudhry, originally from Calcutta, India, the birth place of all yoga disciplines, started practicing yoga at the very early age of three. He currently lives and teaches in Los Angeles, California.

Elements of Bikram Yoga

Bikram Yoga is also known as hot yoga due to the fact that it’s practiced in a room heated to a temperature of 105F with 40% humidity. According to Bikram Choudhury, the high heat prevents injuries, allowing muscles to warm up quickly, and enabling deeper stretching while, at the same time, allowing the mind to relax.
